All Thriller Beach Reads

I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm, and usually read at least one book a month. But during the summer I step it up a gear and get through stacks of book. By books I mean thriller books. During the year I spend lots of time reading fashion and history books for my University work so during summer it’s all about my favourite genre.

With the Girl on the Train selling 6.5 million copies worldwide, the thriller’s never been bigger.

Here are the 5 more reason to sleep with your light on

Behind Closed Door by B.A. Paris

The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do.
You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.

Chilling and disturbingly brilliant, a story that will grip you right from the first chapter. This psychological thriller is a debut of B. A. Paris.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

28248380

In this incredibly composed, thought-provoking debut you will follow Anne and Marco Conti, who went to the dinner party next door and left their 6 months old daughter Cora alone in the house.
They’ve been checking on her every half an hour, but once they came home for good, they found her crib empty.

Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco  soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.

                                                                Method 15/33 by Shannon Kirk

method-15-33

Pregnant teen Lisa is kidnapped by sickos who want to sell her baby then bump her off. Poor girl, right? Well, kind of – she turns out to be a hyper-intelligent semi-sociopath who bides her time plotting audacious revenge.

Method 15/33 happens when the victim is just as cold as the captors.

As sleek and sharp as a razor, this is a must read for every thriller fan, particularly those who think they’ve seen it all.

Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant

51u7MiehsiL

Lecherous failed novelist Paul tags along on holiday to an idyllic Greek village with his new girlfriend Alice and her gang of friends. It turns out not to be the most relaxing break when he ends up accused of rape and murder.

From the author of Under Your Skin and Remember Me This Way, Sabine Durrant. The dazzling new must-read for all fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl, and The Widow

Kill me Again by Rachel Abbot

51jC5agPocL

The fifth book from Rachel Abbot, equally gripping and intense.

When Maggie Taylor accepts a new job in Manchester, she is sure it is the right move for her family. The children have settled well although her husband, Duncan, doesn’t appear to be so convinced.

But nothing prepares her for the shock of coming home from work one night to find that Duncan has disappeared, leaving their children alone. His phone is dead, and she has no idea where he has gone.
When a woman who looks just like Maggie is brutally murdered and DCI Tom Douglas is brought in to investigate, Maggie realises how little she knows about Duncan’s past.

Dishoom

You’ve probably been to Dishoom for dinner, but have you been for breakfast?

As a big fan of naan(and everything Indian), just a thought that it’s on their brunch menu in combination with bacon and egg made me want to go. But they are also sausage naan, Bombay omelette and lots of chai.

Dishoom is the place that I highly recommend for everything, not just breakfast, because their menu is just fantastic.

Dishoom is located in Shoreditch, Kings Cross, Covent Garden and

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings

If nothing you have to visit this place only because of beautiful decor. Airy location in Clerkenwell with flower upholstery would make Pinterest worth interior. More important thing is they can do amazing food. Eggs benedict , the hollandaise potato hash or just English breakfast, you can’t choose wrong

Farm Girl

Hidden in a white brick courtyard at the end of Portabello road, Farm Girl cafe is easier to miss than find. Make sure you don’t get lost in a sea of tourists photographing colourful houses and come in to discover this green-tiled heaven.

Rose, Farm girl herself, Stacey, the front of the house and barista Stuart are all from Australia so the service is relaxed and charming in a warm and welcoming environment.

Food is holistic and healthy with fresh, nutritionally nurturing ingredients from porridge and pancakes to chicken sandwich and steak and chips which is served after 11.

Of course, you will need some drink and latte  is always a good choice. For the brave ones, here you can try some unusual types of latte like Rose or Lavander.

Pachamama

Peruvian breakfast? You probably never thought that that kind of thing exist but it’s her, hidden in Marylebone. Place is open for almost 2 years and the dishes on the seasonally-changing menu are designed to share, featuring sea food, vegaetables and grilled meat. But probably the best part of the menu are gluten free, sweet potatoe waffles with sweet and savoury toppings. The are the best looking waffles you’ll ever see. They are changing toppings but it’s always delicious, no matter what is on.

Summer Blockbusters

Long awaited summer is just around the corner and as much as I’m waiting sunbathing, beach and lazy days I’m also impatient to see all the movies hitting the cinemas .The  period between May and August is very important for big production companies because this is the time when most of the blockbusters coming out and when the wins and losses have been count.

The real list is very long and there are all types of genres for every movie lover but here are my favourite which you can’t miss it!

1. Suicide Squad

maxresdefault

After pretty bad reviews of Batman vs.Superman, all eyes are on Suicide Squad which present something completely different. This time, supervillains are the one saving the world after they have been called by the secret government organisation.  Cast list sounds promising with Viola Davis, Will Smith(Deadshot), Margot Robbie(Harley Quinn) and scary good Jared Leto as Joker. Official release date is 5 August and until then have a look at the trailer.

2. Independence Day: Resurgence

1457463344117.jpg

This it the movie I’m really looking forward because I’ve been waiting for it for the last 20 years! I still remember the excitement when we  rewatching it every summer since I was 10.

This time, there is no Will Smith as Captain Hiller and according to the trailer he’s dead  but one old cast member  coming back is Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson. Liam Hemsworth is joining Jeff in a “Save the World” mission because two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. The last 5-minutes trailer is basically revealing the whole plot so if you are planning to enjoy the movie don’t watch it. The release date is 23 June.

3.Jason Bourne

maxresdefaultdcc

It’s been 9 years since the last movie about secret CIA agent Jason Bourne was in cinemas. The fourth movie, Bourne Legacy, was released in 2011 but without main star Matt Damon. Now, Matt Damon is finally back as Jason Bourne what makes this movie probably the most expected action movie. Also ,the fact that Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander joined the team helps a lot. The film is set several years after the events of the Bourne Ultimatum, and now when Bourne know who he is,he will try to uncover the truth about his past. The movie is hitting cinemas on 27th of July.

4. Finding Dory

dory-list

I’m sure everyone saw Finding Nemo and loved friendly but forgetful blue tang fish Dory so now after more than a decade, Finding Nemo gets a sequel with Dory as the main character and Ellen Degeneres as Dory. Since publishing official trailer gained over 22 million views which made Finding Dory the most expected family movie this year. Premier is on 17th of July.

5. Now You See Me 2

f7985dd83e7a4c6acc26441e2a94c2b5

A major hit from 2011 has earned more than 300 million $ so it has been decided straightaway that there will be a sequel. The plot is set one year after original one with the addition of Arthur Tressler’s (Michael Caine) son, Walter (Daniel Radcliffe), who will  cause the Four Horseman lots  of problems.  Walter is on the mission to bring The Four Horman to justice after his father lost his money and been sent to jail. The cast remains the same except Isla Fisher is replaced by Lizzy Caplan.Michel Kain, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Free, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Jesse Eisenberg are certainly the reasons I’ll be first one in cinema.

6. Star Trek Beyond

Star-Trek-Beyond-Poster-India-Release

After Star Trek(2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness(2013), and my favourite  J.J. Abrams as a director I was  a  little bit suspicious about new Star Trek Beyond . But after I saw the trailer I changed my mind. Justin Lin, director of Fast and Furious, was in charge and it looks like he made action-packed,energetic movie. It looks like the Enterprise encounters a major asteroid field. The ship is badly damaged, and the crew ( Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Scotty, etc.) seems scattered to various points and like that they meet the mysterious  new enemy.   Old cast is still on so we will see Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho…and the biggest addition is Idris Elba who you can’t recognise from the trailer but he’s the monster villain. The movie is out on 22 July and until then check the trailer.

7. The Legend of Tarzan

The-Legend-of-Tarzan-official-wallpaper

I don’t know the exact number of Tarzan movies I saw. We all know the story: Me Tarzan, you Jane, monkeys, jungle, baddies…This time, probably the biggest reason for the hype is the cast. Margot Robbie,  Alexander Skarsgard, Samuel L.Jackson and Christopher Waltz are the reason to expect this movie. Plot first takes us to London where Tarzan, acclimated to his new life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment. After that there is just a lot of jungle and monkey action, Jane is captured as usual and needs saving… If you want to know the rest head to the cinema from 8 July.

Favourite Bakery

One day while walking to Covent Garden, somehow I end up in front of bakery Fabrique. I walked in and from that moment I’m a regular visitor. Not just that they have sourdough bread, freshly baked in Hoxton every day but they sell probably the best cinnamon buns ever!

Fabrique was founded by David and Charlotta Zetterstrom in Stockholm in 2007 and numbers of bakeries have been rising as fast as the dough. There are now 13 Fabrique’s in Stockholm and already three in London. The aim is that you can go into any Fabrique bakery and the cinnamon buns will taste just the same.

So if you want to try original Swedish cinnamon buns head over to one of their bakeries in Hoxton, Coven Garden or Notting Hill.

Favourite Outfit

I’m thrilled that 70s’ clothes are back! I guess I’m lucky enough to be one of those who can wear flares without looking short or chubby. Flares are the best with wedges, platforms or anything with heel bigger that 8cm.This one are from Zara as well as the shirt (last season) and bag(sold out).

Favourite Trend

The off-the-shoulder top is no longer a trend, it’s a wardrobe essential. The top is flirty, flattering, and there is no reason why everyone shouldn’t wear it. The off-the-shoulder design can be found in tops or in dresses, making it endlessly versatile and extremely popular.  This season very popular are those ones in pastel colours, bell-sleeved, frilled and embroidered. Here are my high street favourites

Favourite Book

I’m so into Girl on The Train type of books, where you think you know something but you actually don’t know anything, with a plot full of twists and turns so when I started reading Rachel Abbot’s Sleep Tight I knew that I need to buy all the books she ever wrote. Unfortunately, I started from the middle as this book is #3 with the main character DC Tom Douglas.  This book contains everything that a good psychological thriller should; there is a great puzzle to be solved and uncertainty about which characters can be believed and it’s a proper page turner.  Short description: Olivia Brookes calls the police to report that her husband and children are missing, but this isn’t the first tragedy that Olivia has experienced…

Now, two years later, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is called in to investigate this family again, but this time, it’s Olivia who has disappeared. All the evidence suggests that she was here, in the family home, that morning. But her car is in the garage, and her purse is in her handbag – on the kitchen table. The police want to issue a national appeal, but for some reason, every single picture of this family has been removed from albums, from phones, from computers.

And then they find the blood…

Favourite Beauty

Just until recently only face product I used was baby face cream. But long, cold and windy London winters made a damage to my face. It became red on certain places and dry so I decide to try something. I discovered  L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream which works with your natural tone to help neutralise the appearance of redness.
Smart Pigment Capsules in a feather-light green hydrator transform into foundation on contact with the skin and in that way giving my all the things that I need in just one bottle. It also has SPF 20!

Favourite Sky Restaurant

Duck&Waffle

This place is so exclusive that you need to book in advance for almost 2 months and the reason is the view, of course 🙂 Duck & Waffle is on the 40th floor of Heron Tower and from there you can see almost whole London, up to the Wembley and you are just next to the Gherkin which looks so great with all the lights on! Anyway, the view is great so I was going there because of that, I didn’t expect much when it comes to food, mainly because there was 5 thing on the menu and I only eat chicken.

And we order the whole chicken! Yep, on the Sunday evening, 10pm,whole chicken and two of us! Not very healthy but it was so delicious! Probably the best chicken I ever had.

If you didn’t try Duck & Waffle you really have to. If you book now maybe you will there in January but it is worth of waiting.

Blanket Scarf

There are so many things I love about the autumn:  leaves, hot cocoa, plaid, layers, boots, and of course, blanket scarves.  Not only are they the perfect accessory, but they are also a great way to keep nice and cozy this time of year.

This year scarfs are even better because they are actually  blankets and everyone who knows me knows that I’m a blanket addict if that thing even exist.

I purchased my one on Amazon, but they are everywhere so I’m thinking to get few more. You can’t have too many if you live in London

Until now I never had concealer and then I picked up this Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer and I have to say that I’m amazed. I don’t use anything else for my face except this. It has amazing coverage, a lovely sponge applicator, it feels soft and hydrating.I just don’t know how I lived without one before.

Favourite Book

My favourite thing during the Autumn/Winter season is reading under my, earlier mentioned, blanket. I’m reading all the time but once in a while I find a book that is so amazing I have to share my review with everyone.

This time, the book is The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. It’s a psychological thriller about the man named Ted who meets mysterious woman Lilly on the flight from London to Boston.  Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage and his wife Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. But their game turns dark when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda for what she’s done. Lily, without missing a beat, says calmly, “I’d like to help.”

This was a page turner, with so many twists and turns that I stopped counting. Book worth reading.

When Vogue is writing about you and names like Burberry ,Maybelline and L’Oreal are ordering your product you know that you are on the right path and doing really good job.

Eat Me Maybe is luxury dessert brand based in UK founded by ex fashion PR Jade Jackman and her best friend Andrea Gamble.

For them making cookies and cakes is primary way to relax but it seems like it’s going to turn into full time business due to the fact they had big break into cake market with three floors cake for L’Oreal’s Color Riche birthday party.

From that moment, orders pile up one after another.

Given the fact that I’m big cake/cookie fan and only mention of those can bring smile on my face but also fashion lover,I couldn’t resist to creative achievements of Eat Me Maybe. Burberry raincoats,Michael Kors bags and Louboutine shoes are some of the sweet creations the two friends made.

They are proof that success is  inevitable when you like what you are doing.

Favourite Coffee

Like a big coffee drinker I’m trying to avoid places like Starbucks because that’s not really a coffee, not to me though.

I’m more into those independent small coffee shops so when I discovered new place called Black Penny in Covent Garden I was amazed with the first sip of that coffee. It’s creamy ,delicious and not bitter at all.

And I can day for sure it’s the best coffee I ever tried.

Black Penny is inspired by the coffee houses of 17th Century England and it’s located on Great Queen Street in Covent Garden so stop by if not for coffee then definitely for delicious breakfast or lunch which you can choose from lovely display on the counter

As if handbags  are not enough accessories by them self now they need to have their own accessories. But that’s fine, these cute furry pom poms you’ll like to have.

Favourite Make Up

In this case make up remover 🙂

So I purchased the Garnier Micellar Water just to see what is all the fuss about that Micellar Water .To be honest , I’ve always been more of a makeup wipe kind of girl when it comes to removing makeup.

For those who don’t know what is Micellar water her is the clue. Micellar water takes its name from micelles, tiny  balls of cleansing molecules that float in the water. And that molecule binds with oil and dirt ,therefore removing it from your face.

I have to say Garnier have impressed me. Normally when I’m cleaning my face rubbing is necessary but with this everything comes off straight away. I would recommend to everyone

The same thing is with peanut butter.Even though peanut butter is not very popular in Croatia when I moved to London I decided to try it mainly because everyone were talking about it.
