Mysterious Island

eel pie-4eel pie-9eel pieeel pie-6eel pie-11I have been living in Twickenham for a few months now and I was aware that there is a boatyard and some houses on the other side of the river Thames, but I never expected to find such a mysterious, Narnia-like island just a bridge away.

Eel Pie Island is part of London but a world away from it.

This island is home to a colourful array of inventors, artists, craftsmen and boat builders, who decorate their houses, studios and little alleyways with a Alice in Wonderland charm.

But it wasn’t always this quiet.

Before I crossed the bridge I read some interesting facts online about it, like Henry VIII built a hotel there and the island was a popular holiday destination. In 1950s the hotel was renamed into the Eelpiland Dance Club and became the birthplace of a youth movement gathering young beatniks listening to jazz music and later even hosting concerts of David Bowie and the Stones. Eventually, when the party scene got out of control, a mysterious fire burned the hotel to the ground and then squatters took over…

Ok, I got carried away with the history lesson about the location but I thought it was worth sharing! Be aware that the island is private but it has two open days every year (in July and December) where you can have a peek inside the quirky gardens and even meet the artists.

Now let’s talk clothes!

This polka dot top is my absolute favourite this summer and I got it on sale from Zara. It’s surprising how good it can look with almost every colour of skirt or jeans. The only thing is that it looks better on high waisted items.

For this occassion I paired it with a very simple H&M skirt as the top is a statement on its own and tan New Look sandals which are a couple of seasons old now.

The bag is from the Bosnian brand Cocopat and unfortunately they do not deliver anywhere at the moment apart from Balkan countries (Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia etc.).  Their bags are great quality and so so pretty. This is the first bag that I got from them but definitely not the last one.

In Wonderland

Processed with VSCO with s3 preset

After discovering Syon House and Garden earlier this year I just keep coming back. Not many know about this place, probably because it’s a secluded, all the way in the zone 5, London Borough of Hounslow, and it’s used mainly as a wedding venue.

I’ve never been a model but I love the process of taking the pictures and rushing home to edit them. That’s why it wasn’t a problem for me to wake up early on Sunday morning and go to this magical place with my friend before other people start coming. We were lucky because it was a beautiful sunny and warm September day.

Walking around and enjoying only birds and squirrels, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the people who use to lived there, and some still do ( house is owned by Duke of Northumberland).I was feeling like I’m in a fairytale, most possibly because of tulle with gold embroidery I finally found!

Borough Colours

001_JH.jpg

Many people visited Borough Market but you can’t say you actually been there until you visit it on Saturday early morning, without tourists, crowd and noise.

It’s so peacefull and you can actually see all of its beauty rather than bumping into people.

If you’re a foodie, Borough Market is heaven. They have everything you could possibly wish for. From grocery stalls, piled high with fresh produce to artisanal bakeries, deli shops to most important, street food stalls.

I got up last Saturday way too early for me and went for a stroll with my friend

If you think you don’t need flowers, you will change your mind when you see this cute place.

009_JHIMG_1706IMG_1652IMG_1663

Anyone for some delicious fruits?

IMG_1649IMG_1658010_JH

And lots of good looking stalls…

Who would resist and not have sneaky little treat…or two

I’m so glad that, even though summer is almost finished, new collections on the high street are still colourful.

As soon as I saw this skirt I knew that this is the item that will keep me cheerful during cold autumn days.

And of course, everyone needs cute little bee bag, right?

Favourite Bakery

One day while walking to Covent Garden, somehow I end up in front of bakery Fabrique. I walked in and from that moment I’m a regular visitor. Not just that they have sourdough bread, freshly baked in Hoxton every day but they sell probably the best cinnamon buns ever!

Fabrique was founded by David and Charlotta Zetterstrom in Stockholm in 2007 and numbers of bakeries have been rising as fast as the dough. There are now 13 Fabrique’s in Stockholm and already three in London. The aim is that you can go into any Fabrique bakery and the cinnamon buns will taste just the same.

So if you want to try original Swedish cinnamon buns head over to one of their bakeries in Hoxton, Coven Garden or Notting Hill.

I’m thrilled that 70s’ clothes are back! I guess I’m lucky enough to be one of those who can wear flares without looking short or chubby. Flares are the best with wedges, platforms or anything with heel bigger that 8cm.This one are from Zara as well as the shirt (last season) and bag(sold out).

Favourite Trend

The off-the-shoulder top is no longer a trend, it’s a wardrobe essential. The top is flirty, flattering, and there is no reason why everyone shouldn’t wear it. The off-the-shoulder design can be found in tops or in dresses, making it endlessly versatile and extremely popular.  This season very popular are those ones in pastel colours, bell-sleeved, frilled and embroidered. Here are my high street favourites

Favourite Book

I’m so into Girl on The Train type of books, where you think you know something but you actually don’t know anything, with a plot full of twists and turns so when I started reading Rachel Abbot’s Sleep Tight I knew that I need to buy all the books she ever wrote. Unfortunately, I started from the middle as this book is #3 with the main character DC Tom Douglas.  This book contains everything that a good psychological thriller should; there is a great puzzle to be solved and uncertainty about which characters can be believed and it’s a proper page turner.  Short description: Olivia Brookes calls the police to report that her husband and children are missing, but this isn’t the first tragedy that Olivia has experienced…

Now, two years later, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is called in to investigate this family again, but this time, it’s Olivia who has disappeared. All the evidence suggests that she was here, in the family home, that morning. But her car is in the garage, and her purse is in her handbag – on the kitchen table. The police want to issue a national appeal, but for some reason, every single picture of this family has been removed from albums, from phones, from computers.

And then they find the blood…

Just until recently only face product I used was baby face cream. But long, cold and windy London winters made a damage to my face. It became red on certain places and dry so I decide to try something. I discovered  L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream which works with your natural tone to help neutralise the appearance of redness.
Smart Pigment Capsules in a feather-light green hydrator transform into foundation on contact with the skin and in that way giving my all the things that I need in just one bottle. It also has SPF 20!

Everyone is Wearing: Bomber Jacket

jakne-bomber1.jpg.pagespeed.ce.-kVPklGAJQ

Her majesty leather jacket will have to be satisfied with second place this spring because now it’s all about the bomber.

Originally bomber jackets were made for pilots during the World War I because planes didn’t have a cabin so pilots needed something comfortable and resistant to wind and cold.

Leslie Leroy Irvin, the man who founded the company for design and manufacture of parachutes and an avid fan of flying, knew about pilots needs for a functional garment so he came up with the first bomber jacket lined with warm fur.

From 70’s different subcultures embraced this trend and as the hip hop music gained popularity bomber slowly became part of  the mainstream culture.

Today on the market there are bomber jackets with prices over £10,000 which says enough about the new identity of once military clothing item.

Gucci SS16

Almost everyone presented some sort of bomber jacket in their Spring Summer 16 collections: Gucci offers a green model embellished with golden and silver thread, McQueen proposed satin one in a color of Bazooka chewing gum, Chloe welcomes the spring with  green bomber jacket decorated with embroidered tiger while Stella McCartney chose girly motifs like flowers and pink horses.

High street also loves this trend so in Zara you will be able to find it in several models, from monochrome to those with flowers and at H&M you will find retro ones decorated with sequins.

Favourite Tapas Pincho Since I tried tapas in Barcelona I didn’t believe that I’ll find something as much as good in London. But I was wrong. Pinch, Mediterranean tapas bar, is at the end of the row of quaint little shops and pubs that lines Church Street in Twickenham.

With big outdoor seating space, Pincho seems to be full every weekend for lunch and dinner.
We opted for chorizo a la blanch with flaming brandy, chicken skewers ,pork belly, damon croquettes and patatas bravas . It was so delicious it felt like we are back in Barcelona.Which wasn’t surprising because we found out that chef is actually from Barcelona 🙂

Favourite Burger

Kua’Aina

I don’t eat hamburgers,I’m usually  chicken person 🙂  But when I tried this one at Kua’Aina in Soho I was amazed. This is a small Hawaiian restaurant but really famous. It literally feels like you are on one of Hawaiian beaches. And  apparently President Obama loves these burgers.

Everything on the menu looks delicious but I chose cheeseburger with fries an Rose lemonade.

They also serve pancakes which I heard are some of the lightest, most delicate-tasting pancakes in London.

I would definitely recommend this for your next meal 🙂

High weist shorts

I don’t know why but I like high waist shorts more then trousers. I feel so comfortable in it. It’s a shame that in London I don’t have much chance to wear them but that didn’t stop me to buy few because you never know. You can wear them with almost everything, shirts, crop tops,t shirt, heels or flats…

Probably the best person to get inspiration have to wear this trend is Taylor Swift

La Pepita

I’m tapas monster 🙂 Even in London I want to have tapas every week. So first thing I did when we arrived to Barcelona was to ask our hosts were is the best tapas place. They recommended La Pepita ,small but lovely restaurant and bar in Gràcia. It was the best tapas I ever had!  From patatas bravas, croquettes to Spanish ham and even fried egg with crisps…everything was amazing.

After delicious dinner we ordered dessert which was definitely something that I didn’t know it exist – Corn Ice Cream with Popcorns and Raspberries. Surprisingly it was delicious just like everything .Good thing is it not too busy and guest are mostly Spanish so you can be sure it’s good 🙂  I would recommend everyone to go there when they visiting Barcelona

Like a real Zara fan only thing I was thinking is Zara. And I have to say it’s much better than London Zara. It’s much bigger with much more choice(they say better quality as well). Mango,Stradivarius,Pull&Bear and Bershka are everywhere. Literally everywhere. Best part for shopping spree is Passeig de Gràcia where you can choose from high street brand to exclusive designer stores.

TV Style Crush-Mad Man

mad-men

I have to admit I just started to follow this tv show after  postponing it for years and years. But amazing fashion didn’t slip my eye. Set in the late 1960s, “the plot focuses on the business of the advertising agencies as well as the personal lives of the characters. The three leading ladies (Joan Holloway, Betty Draper and Peggy Olson) have a signature style each. Some of the key elements of the show included culottes, swing dresses, pencil skirts, knee-high boots, ruffles, scarves and coats in neons, prints, florals, plaids and bold colours.

Joan Holloway

Her wardrobe is all about  fitting silhouettes. She’s wearing a lot of dresses with three quarter sleeves and  also has a thing for pins, which are a great way to accessorize otherwise plain dresses

TV Style Crush- Pretty Little Liar

SHAY MITCHELL, ASHLEY BENSON, TROIAN BELLISARIO, LUCY HALE

I admit,Pretty Little Liars were always my guilty pleasure . The show is  high school drama type about four girls in small town Rosewood being terrorised by mysterious A. Show goes on now for 5 seasons and it’s renewed for 2 more( too much if you ask me) .

From the beginning the most interesting part of the show was fashion. Each character fashion style is so different from each others that you can get lots of inspiration from every episode.

Lets start with my favourite Aria Montgomery.

Aria has edgy, bohemian style which is very daring and it’s not for everyone. Basic elements of her style are jackets, boots, lots of layers ,dresses and skirts with unique and quirky touch .

She wears  materials like leather and lace with urban accents like zippers and studs. She shows her boho side with feathers and crochet and she likes to mix prints

Desktop9-1024x768 Recently-Updated17-1024x768

Hanna Marin changed her style a lot  since Season 1 when she was very girly. Now her style we can call it edgy glam. Basic things in her wardrobe are jackets( now mainly leather ones) , ruffles ,pastel and bold colours ,glam purses, killer heels, statement jewellery .

hanna-pretty-little-liars-bombshell-fashion6a017d3f64c377970c019aff153604970d

Emily Fields is an athletic girl who prefers simple and comfortable clothes. Her style we can call sporty chic.

She likes to wear comfy, off  tank tops, shorts,  jeans and sneakers, hoodies and leggings ,stripes, khaki and denim skirts and messengers bags.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t look stunning in glam dresses and stilettos .

She doesn’t wear much jewellery, just simple necklaces and hoop earrings.

emily-pll-style emily-pretty-little-liars-bohoglam-fashion

Spencer Hastings style is what we call preppy-always very proper. She wears classic but with a twist, still always looks polished and effortless .

Main elements of her style are blazers and jackets, oxford shoes, neutrals, menswear, tights.

Her style featuring lots of knee socks and button down shirts, cardigans and belts.
